Patched-up Panthers put up brave fight

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - World Cup -

PANTHERS failed to shake a huge monkey from their backs last night - but they did keep alive their hopes of a lengthy Elite League KO Cup run.

A 49-41 quarter-final first leg defeat against Swindon was their 24th successive reverse at The Abbey Stadium, but team boss Trevor Swales was heartened by the outcome after fielding a team patched up by two guests and also including squad man Craig Cook.

The two sides were locked together at 33-33 until Swindon claimed two crucial 5-1s.

Swales said: “We went there looking for victory and I thought that this might finally be our night as we were in touch until the 5-1s cost us.

“But I would certainly hope we are up to the task of turning it around in the second leg.”
