Man arrested in doorstep shooting probe
POLICE investigating a chilling doorstep shooting swooped on a house in Peterborough yesterday.
The raid took place at 7am at the smart semi-detached home in quiet Lavender Crescent, Welland.
Officers moved quickly to seal off the premises while search experts with sniffer dogs carried out a lengthy search of the three-bedroom house.
A police spokesperson said the hunt, which lasted for several hours, was carried out in bid to uncover hidden guns, drugs and cash.
A Rover car parked on the driveway was also searched.
The spokesperson confirmed that the raid had been carried out in connection with investigations into a shooting in Godmanchester.
In the incident, which took place at about 9.30pm on June 1, a 41-year-old man was seriously injured when two men knocked on the door at his house in Anderson Crescent in the town, just south of Huntingdon. When the man answered the door he was shot, and the two men ran off.
The victim was taken to hospital with one bullet wound and was discharged shortly afterwards.
Det Insp Mike Branston from Cambridgeshire police said: “I would like to hear from anyone who saw these men in the moments leading up to the shooting and as they left the scene.
“Investigations are under way to trace them and we are treating this as an isolated incident. Thankfully these types of incidents are rare.
“However, we are treating this crime extremely seriously.”
