MEMBERS of a Peterborough church are holding a special event today to celebrate the restoration of its Victorian organ. Paston All Saints’ Church on Fulbridge Road, has a full programme to say thanks to fundraisers and show residents and budding historians the newly refurbished church centre piece. During the morning there will be a chance to not only see inside the organ, with the help of a guided talk, but also there will be a opportunity to have a go. Later there will be a full choral evensong with the Peterborough Cathedral Voluntary Choir. As a special treat for the evening Peterborough Cathedral organist, Andrew Reid, will be giving a special recital on the instrument. The organ, which is more than 100 years old, cost £18,000 to restore it to its full glory and work was completed in time for the congregation’s Easter celebrations. Church organist Ainslie Grubb said: “We are delighted to have our organ back to its former glory and thought that this would be an excellent way of celebrating.” And social committee chairman and organiser of the day, Steve Cuts, added: “We were thrilled to raise the restoration money in such a short time. “We thought this would be an excellent way of saying thank you.”
