Peterb-other side of the pond back US win

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - UK & World Update -

A YOUNG footballer from Peterborough is hoping for a US win today.

But the twist in the tale is that this teen star comes from Peterborough, New Hampshire, in the United States of America.

Ryan Betz (14), who plays as a winger for youth side Concal, said: “I don’t think England realise how good the US are, so we will win.

“I think Jozy Altidore will score and it will be 2-0 to the USA.

“Soccer is not as popular here as basketball or American football, but it is getting big in schools and I think we have a really good national team.”

Peterborough in the USA has a population of around 6,000 people and is home to the country’s first free library.

US Peterborian and council sports officer Craig Fraley also faces a battle with his English wife Nicola to win the support of their son Benjamin (3).

Craig said: “There has been a lot of trash talking going on. Nicola’s family live in Colchester and I can’t wait to call them when the US win.”
