THE Northants Bowling Federation county teams began an era under new team captains by winning both matches at local rivals Hunts.
Although rink honours were shared at three apiece, the Adams Trophy team, under Peter Brown, took the overall honours by 13 shots (175-162), with rink wins for Roger Martin, Martin Welsford and Paul Buckley.
Although only managing to win on two rinks – new captain Fred Addy (32-23) and John Stoneham (34-14) – the Newton Trophy just managed to eke out a four-shot win at Sawtry (158-154) to collect 15 points.
Barry Lawrence’s rink drew 26-26, but there were defeats for John Little (33-27), Brian Bassam (31-19) and Maurice Elding (27-20).
The Northants teams are in action today against North Essex at Whittlesey Manor (Adams) and Peterborough & District (Newton). to Norfolk this week.
The Donald Steward team won 143118 but the Silver Jubilee Vase team went down 151-118.
The teams complete their away programme next Saturday against North Cambs, then face three successive home fixtures against Lincs, Hunts and Suffolk. RESULTS

THE funeral service for Northants Bowling Federation stalwart Danny Duffy is being held at St Augustine’s Church, Woodston, on Tuesday, April 22 at 1.45pm, followed by committal at Peterborough Crematorium at 3pm. A reception into church and mass is being held on the Monday at 5.15pm.

In the senior singles, defending champion Joan Robinson (Yaxley) meets Wendy Harrold (Whittlesey Manor) with Joan Butcher (Whittlesey Town) facing Sheila Craig (Conservatives) in the other semi-final.
In the two-bowl triples, the rink of Margaret Linnell (West Ward) toppled Linda Darani’s (Belvedere) trio who were runners-up last year and now faces Pat Reynolds (Whittlesey Manor) for a place in the final. The other semi-final clash is between Glenys Edwards (Ketton) and Ro Collin (Yaxley).
