THE Northants Bowl­ing Fed­er­a­tion county teams be­gan an era un­der new team cap­tains by win­ning both matches at lo­cal ri­vals Hunts.

Al­though rink hon­ours were shared at three apiece, the Adams Tro­phy team, un­der Peter Brown, took the over­all hon­ours by 13 shots (175-162), with rink wins for Roger Martin, Martin Wels­ford and Paul Buck­ley.

Al­though only man­ag­ing to win on two rinks – new cap­tain Fred Addy (32-23) and John Stone­ham (34-14) – the Newton Tro­phy just man­aged to eke out a four-shot win at Sawtry (158-154) to col­lect 15 points.

Barry Lawrence’s rink drew 26-26, but there were de­feats for John Lit­tle (33-27), Brian Bas­sam (31-19) and Mau­rice Eld­ing (27-20).

The Northants teams are in ac­tion to­day against North Es­sex at Whit­tle­sey Manor (Adams) and Peter­bor­ough & District (Newton). to Nor­folk this week.

The Don­ald Stew­ard team won 143118 but the Sil­ver Ju­bilee Vase team went down 151-118.

The teams com­plete their away pro­gramme next Satur­day against North Cambs, then face three suc­ces­sive home fix­tures against Lincs, Hunts and Suf­folk. RE­SULTS

THE fu­neral ser­vice for Northants Bowl­ing Fed­er­a­tion stal­wart Danny Duffy is be­ing held at St Au­gus­tine’s Church, Wood­ston, on Tues­day, April 22 at 1.45pm, fol­lowed by com­mit­tal at Peter­bor­ough Cre­ma­to­rium at 3pm. A re­cep­tion into church and mass is be­ing held on the Mon­day at 5.15pm.

TWO of the Northants Women’s Bowl­ing Fed­er­a­tion com­pe­ti­tions have reached the semi-fi­nal stage.

In the se­nior sin­gles, de­fend­ing cham­pion Joan Robin­son (Yax­ley) meets Wendy Har­rold (Whit­tle­sey Manor) with Joan Butcher (Whit­tle­sey Town) fac­ing Sheila Craig (Con­ser­va­tives) in the other semi-fi­nal.

In the two-bowl triples, the rink of Mar­garet Lin­nell (West Ward) top­pled Linda Darani’s (Belvedere) trio who were run­ners-up last year and now faces Pat Reynolds (Whit­tle­sey Manor) for a place in the fi­nal. The other semi-fi­nal clash is be­tween Glenys Ed­wards (Ket­ton) and Ro Collin (Yax­ley).
