Time is right to clean up the river and embankment

VISIT

the majority of towns and cities up and down the country with a river running through and you will find a focal point for the poeople who live there

Sadly, apart from one or two special events, the Embankment and the River Nene remain an untapped and underused facility.

Except that is by those most people would prefer kept away to allow it to be enjoyed by others.

Drinking and anti-social behaviour blight the Embankment while illegal anglers and yobs on jetskis bring the river into disrepute.

All that could be about to change – and what a boost for the city centre that would be.

If the police and Environment Agency’s double-pronged attack on the area succeeds and drives the troublemakers away, it might just be the catalyst to attract visitors less intent on causing a nuisance.

Attracting people into the city centre – just like the city council is trying to do with its multi-millioin pound redevelopment around Cathedral Square – is vital if it is to grow and prosper.
