WOOD­STON rider Matt Barker started rac­ing at the age of six and was tipped for the top af­ter dom­i­nat­ing the Bri­tish Ju­nior Cham­pi­onship in 2000.

How­ever, af­ter suf­fer­ing a se­ries of in­juries, he was forced to take a break from the sport.

He said: “I won the cham­pi­onship by 125 points – the equiv­a­lent of three race wins – and some were say­ing I could have been some­thing ex­tra spe­cial.

“But I broke a leg in a bike crash and hurt my­self skate­board­ing as well.

“I came back a cou­ple of years later but I needed to con­cen­trate on a ca­reer. I was dis­ap­pointed to leave it be­hind, but I love the job I do now.”
