FACTFILE... on Matt Barker’s career
WOODSTON rider Matt Barker started racing at the age of six and was tipped for the top after dominating the British Junior Championship in 2000.
However, after suffering a series of injuries, he was forced to take a break from the sport.
He said: “I won the championship by 125 points – the equivalent of three race wins – and some were saying I could have been something extra special.
“But I broke a leg in a bike crash and hurt myself skateboarding as well.
“I came back a couple of years later but I needed to concentrate on a career. I was disappointed to leave it behind, but I love the job I do now.”
