Carefree days

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Hobson's Choice -

OUR third photograph today is of another unusual place for youngsters to hang out.

Taken in August 1958 at Newark Gravel Pit, it shows a group of young men having fun, and seeming happy and carefree, on what must have been a warm day, judging by the rolled-up sleeves and shorts.

Ian Lemmon, of Peterborough, sent us the photograph, and a list of names to put to those mischievous faces.

They are: Colin Hodgkinson, Mick Lemmon, Lou Goodman, Blin Nanister, Tony Benham, Wasp, Roland, Adrian King, Doug Jackson (Tidler) Gaby Haynes. Alan Turner, Tab Barbon, Steve Rowbottom, George Leveridge, Doug Winstanley, Dave Pell, Mick Stuffins and Fred Moulton.

If you have any information on what used to go on at the gravel pit please do get in touch.
