‘Real jobs for real people’ on offer
EMPLOYERS and organisations across Peterborough will be offering more than 350 jobs tomorrow at a recruitment and career drive at the city’s Great Northern Hotel. Main sponsor RSA Insurance has more than 230 jobs available.
Launching the event, which will take place between 9.30am and 5pm, will be Gavin Elsey, Peterborough’s cabinet member for business engagement.
Unemployment in Britain has just risen by the biggest amount since the country’s last recession 17 years ago, as the financial crisis filters through to the jobs market.
However, Victoria Clarke, business development manager of event organiser Olsen Partnership, said: “We are pleased to be bringing the ninth Get A Better Job Day to Peterborough, along with our sponsors RSA Insurance.
“The aim of the event is to allow people who are currently working to seek improved prospects
By JOHN KRALEVICH as well as helping candidates who are not in work to get back into work. There will be exhibitors offering a wide range of jobs and opportunities from customer service advisors, professional and managerial, help to launch your own business to social care, manufacturing and technicians, as well as career guidance, education and training. There is something for everyone.”
Some of the exhibitors taking part include RSA Insurance, Fusion Contact Centre, The One Group, Avon Cosmetics, Care UK, Reed in Partnership, Pathways to Work, New College, the Armed Forces, to name a few.
Matthew Archer, of Reed in Partnership, who will be present on the day, said: “We’re pleased to be working with the Olsen Partnership to help make the Peterborough Get a Better Job Day successful for those people looking for work. We will be there to talk about our Pathways to Work and Skills for Jobs services, and are here to provide support for people who are unemployed and want advice about how to secure that dream job.”
Commenting on the event, Mr Elsey said: “This is the second Get a Better Job Day event in Peterborough since I’ve been cabinet member for business engagement, and if it replicates the first it will be hugely successful.
“It’s critical for the Peterborough economy and future growth of our city to stimulate job creation, a greater skills base and an ethos that Peterborough is most definitely open for business! These Get a Better Job Day events epitomise all we are trying to achieve in our city and I am happy to support them. Any event which brings in excess of 350 real job vacancies and huge training initiatives to the people of Peterborough has to be a good thing.”
