‘Real jobs for real peo­ple’ on of­fer

EM­PLOY­ERS and or­gan­i­sa­tions across Peter­bor­ough will be of­fer­ing more than 350 jobs to­mor­row at a re­cruit­ment and ca­reer drive at the city’s Great North­ern Ho­tel. Main spon­sor RSA In­surance has more than 230 jobs avail­able.

Launch­ing the event, which will take place be­tween 9.30am and 5pm, will be Gavin Elsey, Peter­bor­ough’s cabi­net mem­ber for busi­ness en­gage­ment.

Un­em­ploy­ment in Bri­tain has just risen by the biggest amount since the coun­try’s last re­ces­sion 17 years ago, as the fi­nan­cial cri­sis fil­ters through to the jobs mar­ket.

How­ever, Vic­to­ria Clarke, busi­ness devel­op­ment man­ager of event or­gan­iser Olsen Part­ner­ship, said: “We are pleased to be bring­ing the ninth Get A Bet­ter Job Day to Peter­bor­ough, along with our spon­sors RSA In­surance.

There will be ex­hibitors of­fer­ing a wide range of jobs and op­por­tu­ni­ties from cus­tomer ser­vice ad­vi­sors, pro­fes­sional and man­age­rial, help to launch your own busi­ness to so­cial care, man­u­fac­tur­ing and tech­ni­cians, as well as ca­reer guid­ance, ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing. There is some­thing for ev­ery­one.”

Some of the ex­hibitors tak­ing part in­clude RSA In­surance, Fu­sion Con­tact Cen­tre, The One Group, Avon Cos­met­ics, Care UK, Reed in Part­ner­ship, Path­ways to Work, New Col­lege, the Armed Forces, to name a few.

Matthew Archer, of Reed in Part­ner­ship, who will be present on the day, said: “We’re pleased to be work­ing with the Olsen Part­ner­ship to help make the Peter­bor­ough Get a Bet­ter Job Day suc­cess­ful for those peo­ple look­ing for work. We will be there to talk about our Path­ways to Work and Skills for Jobs ser­vices, and are here to pro­vide sup­port for peo­ple who are un­em­ployed and want ad­vice about how to se­cure that dream job.”

Com­ment­ing on the event, Mr Elsey said: “This is the sec­ond Get a Bet­ter Job Day event in Peter­bor­ough since I’ve been cabi­net mem­ber for busi­ness en­gage­ment, and if it repli­cates the first it will be hugely suc­cess­ful.

“It’s crit­i­cal for the Peter­bor­ough econ­omy and fu­ture growth of our city to stim­u­late job cre­ation, a greater skills base and an ethos that Peter­bor­ough is most def­i­nitely open for busi­ness! These Get a Bet­ter Job Day events epit­o­mise all we are try­ing to achieve in our city and I am happy to sup­port them.
