Still time for volunteers to come forward to help carnival
PREPARATIONS are now well under way for the Werrington Scout and Guide Carnival.
The popular community carnival is taking place at Werrington Primary School’s field in Amberley Slope, Werrington, on June 26 and will involve a special parade as well as a variety of entertainment.
The event is being organised by a sub-committee of the Werrington Scouts and Guides Council and will raise money to go toward the upkeep of the scouts and guides’ headquarters over the coming year.
This is the 41st carnival to be held and as it is a family occasion organisers are looking for residents’ help to make it another success.
The parade will leave Wells Close at 1.30pm and heard toward Werrington Primary School.
Judges will decide which is the best-dressed float and the best costumes before the parade moves off.
After the carnival there will be a party and hog roast which will be held at The Village Centre, in Church Street, from 8pm to 11.30pm.
Tickets are £8 for adults and £4 for children and all are welcome to come along.
Last summer, thousands of villagers joined in the fun and the route through the village was packed with families viewing the parade which featured scores of floats.
The event raised £7,000 for the upkeep of the Scout HQ while thousands more were raised by the charity stalls taking part in the event.
If anyone would like to help in any way, whether it is in offers of lorries, equipment or donations, the committee would welcome additional help or ideas.
