Su­per skip­pers lead the way for Town teams

ThE cap­tains led from the front as Peter­bor­ough Town en­joyed an out­stand­ing week­end.

Town sec­onds joined the first team in mov­ing to the top of a Northants League, while the club’s third team won for the first time this sea­son in Hunts Di­vi­sion Three.

Skip­per Bob Milne top scored with 88 as the sec­ond team moved into first place in Northants Di­vi­sion Three with a 47-run win over Kemp­ston Ham­mers. Teenager Rob Sayer (57) helped Milne put on 112 for the first wicket.

And third team leader Brian Howard cracked 60 as Town thirds beat Wer­ring­ton by five wick­ets. Town’s se­nior side also went top of the Northants Premier Di­vi­sion over the week­end.

The only Town team to lose all week­end was the Sun­day sec­ond team who went down by seven wick­ets to Roth­well in Rut­land Di­vi­sion Four.

New­bor­ough were in­volved in three fan­tas­tic fin­ishes over the week­end.

The first hat-trick of Nick Lawton’s ca­reer and 61 from Ste­wart McCracken set up a one-wicket win for the first team over Ea­ton So­con in Hunts Di­vi­sion One.

McCracken also made 54 in sup­port of Gareth Clingo’s 74 as the first team then pipped Yax­ley by the same mar­gin in Rut­land Di­vi­sion Two af­ter last-man Lawton snicked his first ball for four in the last over, but the sec­ond-team lost their nail-biter by two wick­ets at St Neots in Hunts Di­vi­sion Four.

Or­ton Park won for the first time in Hunts Di­vi­sion One as teenager Hamish Me­ichan (3-21 & 59) en­joyed a fine all-round dis­play against War­boys.

Martin Howe re­turned ex­cel­lent fig­ures of 7-24 as Hampton skit­tled Ea­ton So­con sec­onds for 64 on the way to an eight-wocket win in Di­vi­sion Three.

Will Clough bat­ted for just the sec­ond time this sum­mer - he was dis­missed for a duck on his first out­ing - and cracked 127 not out in Uf­ford Park’s re­mark­able 336-run win over Long Sut­ton in Rut­land Di­vi­sion Three.

Clough fin­ished un­beaten on 127 and Danny Harrington added 96 as Uf­ford posted a 45-over to­tal of 360-5. Sut­ton were then shot out for a paltry 24!

Uf­ford sec­onds were on the re­ceiv­ing end in Di­vi­sion Six though as they were rushed out for just 59 to com­plete a 211-run re­verse at War­boys.

Spald­ing moved to the top of South Lincs Di­vi­sion One with a big win over Wood­hall Spa sec­onds. Micheal Kearns, Ibby Khan and An­sar Hus­sain all made half cen­turies in Spald­ing’s 270-5.

Tariz Aziz (62 & 4-14) was the star man as Thomas Cook saw off Sleaford by 46 runs in Di­vi­sion Two and Tim Dyer (7-17) was in deadly form as Bas­ton beat Blankney by six wick­ets in Di­vi­sion Three.
