Super skippers lead the way for Town teams
ThE captains led from the front as Peterborough Town enjoyed an outstanding weekend.
Town seconds joined the first team in moving to the top of a Northants League, while the club’s third team won for the first time this season in Hunts Division Three.
Skipper Bob Milne top scored with 88 as the second team moved into first place in Northants Division Three with a 47-run win over Kempston Hammers. Teenager Rob Sayer (57) helped Milne put on 112 for the first wicket.
And third team leader Brian Howard cracked 60 as Town thirds beat Werrington by five wickets. Town’s senior side also went top of the Northants Premier Division over the weekend.
The only Town team to lose all weekend was the Sunday second team who went down by seven wickets to Rothwell in Rutland Division Four.
Newborough were involved in three fantastic finishes over the weekend.
The first hat-trick of Nick Lawton’s career and 61 from Stewart McCracken set up a one-wicket win for the first team over Eaton Socon in Hunts Division One.
McCracken also made 54 in support of Gareth Clingo’s 74 as the first team then pipped Yaxley by the same margin in Rutland Division Two after last-man Lawton snicked his first ball for four in the last over, but the second-team lost their nail-biter by two wickets at St Neots in Hunts Division Four.
Orton Park won for the first time in Hunts Division One as teenager Hamish Meichan (3-21 & 59) enjoyed a fine all-round display against Warboys.
Martin Howe returned excellent figures of 7-24 as Hampton skittled Eaton Socon seconds for 64 on the way to an eight-wocket win in Division Three.
Will Clough batted for just the second time this summer - he was dismissed for a duck on his first outing - and cracked 127 not out in Ufford Park’s remarkable 336-run win over Long Sutton in Rutland Division Three.
Clough finished unbeaten on 127 and Danny Harrington added 96 as Ufford posted a 45-over total of 360-5. Sutton were then shot out for a paltry 24!
Ufford seconds were on the receiving end in Division Six though as they were rushed out for just 59 to complete a 211-run reverse at Warboys.
Spalding moved to the top of South Lincs Division One with a big win over Woodhall Spa seconds. Micheal Kearns, Ibby Khan and Ansar Hussain all made half centuries in Spalding’s 270-5.
Tariz Aziz (62 & 4-14) was the star man as Thomas Cook saw off Sleaford by 46 runs in Division Two and Tim Dyer (7-17) was in deadly form as Baston beat Blankney by six wickets in Division Three.
