Passenger killed as car and lorry collide
A WOMAN has died after the car she was travelling collided head-on with an articulated lorry on a city road.
The woman, who has not yet been named by police, was the passenger in a Vauxhall Astra which collided with the lorry on Oundle Road, at Orton Wistow, at 2.16pm yesterday.
She died at the scene. The male driver of the car had minor injuries and the lorry driver was unhurt.

However, they were unable to save the female passenger, who was trapped in the wreckage of a silver Vauxhall Corsa.
The woman, who has not been identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the car was treated at the scene of the crash by paramedics from the ambulance service and taken to Peterborough District Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the articulated Del Monte lorry was uninjured.
A spokesperson from the East Anglian Ambulance Service, said: “We were called to the scene at 2.16pm following a call from the lorry driver.
“We arrived to find a head-on collision had occurred between a lorry and a car.
“The male lorry driver was uninjured. The male driver of the car was walking around. He had no obvious injuries but was very shaken and was taken to Peterborough District Hospital with minor injuries.
“The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Police believe the Vauxhall Corsa was travelling out of Peterborough, towards the Lynch Wood Business Park, when it moved over to the right-hand-side of the single carriageway road and into the path of the lorry, which was heading towards the city centre.
Speaking at the scene, Inspector Nick Church said: “There has been a two vehicle crash between a lorry and a car.
“For reasons which we are looking into, one of the vehicles has crossed the white line in the middle of the road and collided with the other vehicle.
“Sadly this has resulted in one fatality. I am unable to release further details about the victim at this time.”
Police closed the road between the roundabout at Orton Wistow and the Lynch Wood Business Park roundabout for several hours while they took pictures and conducted their investigation at the scene.
Both of the vehicles were also recovered.
The road closure caused minor delays to rush hour traffic, with mo- torists being diverted through Orton Wistow.
Sergeant Lyndon Pickston, who is investigating the crash, said: “I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision.”
The tragedy comes just two days after an horrific accident on the Nene Parkway, which left one man seriously injured.
The 36-year-old remains in a serious condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge.
The crash happened near to Junction 32 on the Nene Parkway, where it meets Oundle Road, at Orton Longueville.
The single-vehicle accident took place at 7.44pm on Sunday and saw the driver’s blue Ford Fiesta come off the road before striking a lamppost.
