ARGENTINA have won the World Cup twice – once on home turf in 1978 and in Mexico in 1986.

This year’s Argentina World Cup squad are managed by former player Diego Maradona, who is known for his ‘Hand of God’ moment in the 1986 World Cup.

The ball went into the net off Maradona’s fist, but the referee did not see and allowed the goal. Maradona said he was helped by the ‘hand of God’.

Football is the most popular sport in Argentina – with 3,377 clubs.

Football was introduced to Argentina in the 19th century.
