Hopes of a revisit gone for a Burton
I WAS watching Michael Portillo’s trip to Burton on Trent the other evening and reminisced.
I had visited the town not many years ago. Being renowned for its brewing I thought I would do a pub crawl, and as I alighted from the train I thought why not start with the station hotel. But the station hotel was closed, and by all appearances had been for some years.
However, I spotted a pub down the road and walked in that direction. That too was closed, but would open later if I cared to wait until the evening! However. I did eventually get my drink.
Would I go back to Burton on Trent? Well. Not unless I wanted a cup of tea!
