Sky’s the limit for Park Air

NORTHROP Grum­man Park Air Sys­tems has been awarded con­tracts to pro­vide air traf­fic con­trol tower com­mu­ni­ca­tions equip­ment and a sur­face move­ment guid­ance and con­trol sys­tem at the Noi Bai In­ter­na­tional Air­port, Hanoi, the largest air­port in north­ern Viet­nam.

The work will be split be­tween the of­fice in Mar­ket Deep­ing and the com­pany’s of­fices in Nor­way. It is due to be com­pleted in March 2011.

“Viet­nam is an im­por­tant mar­ket for Northrop Grum­man Park Air Sys­tems,” said Ken Bee­dle, di­rec­tor in­ter­na­tional com­mu­ni­ca­tions, Northrop Grum­man.

“It is the first con­tract of this na­ture in Viet­nam and comes to fruition af­ter a num­ber of years of po­si­tion­ing work in­coun­try.”

The re­cently-built 80m-high air traf­fic con­trol (ATC) tower at Noi Bai is the first step in a com­pre­hen­sive up­grade pro­gramme for the air­port. The con­struc­tion of the new ter­mi­nal has al­ready started and fur­ther ex­ten­sions are ex­pected in the near fu­ture.

The ATC tower will be fit­ted with a voice com­mu­ni­ca­tion sys­tem con­sist­ing of Northrop Grum­man’s GAREX Voice Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and Con­trol Sys­tem (VCCS), record­ing sys­tem and PAE T6 multi-mode air-ground ra­dios, all of which will be fully in­te­grated to de­liver en­hanced com­mu­ni­ca­tions at the air­port.

Mr Bee­dle added: “Viet­nam is also ex­pand­ing rapidly and will need to in­vest in re­place­ment and up­grade pro­grammes sim­i­lar to this in the fu­ture.”
