A DISTRAUGHT mother has made a passionate plea for a thief to return a camera with precious memories of her twin daughters.

Hayley Howard (28), from Helpston, near Peterborough, returned from a stroll around Peterborough beauty spot Ferry Meadows with children Eva and Jessica (17 months) to find the window at the rear of her Vauxhall Zafira had been smashed.

A thief had reached into the boot of the car, where Mrs Howard’s bag containing her Canon camera had been placed.

She said: “When I saw the smashed window the first thing I thought was ‘oh no, my camera’.

“It had so many memories on it that we desperately want back. There were 200 to 300 photos of the twins and there were things like their first birthday pictures, which we may have now lost forever.

“My message to anybody reading this is to please return the camera or at least the memory card to the police – we just want the photos back.

“Both of the girls were born prematurely and that first birthday was a really happy one, because there were times that we thought it was something we might not be able to celebrate it.

“To lose those memories would be devasatating to my husband David (30) and myself, and they are also photos we would like to show the girls when they are older.”

The silver Vauxhall Zafira was in the car park at Ferry Meadows in Ferry Hill, Castor, between 10am and 2.45pm on Wednesday.

Mrs Howard had been joined on the walk by her sister Michelle Burton and her son Joseph (11 theft occurred on Wednesday between 10.15am and 2.45pm at Ferry Hill, Castor. The driver had returned to find the back window had been smashed.

“Someone had reached through the back window to grab her bag. Anybody with any information should contact police on 0345 456 456 4.”
