Swimming coaches to make splash for charity

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - NEWS -

COACHES from a swimming club will be swapping their water wear for walking boots this weekend when they take on a trek across the North York Moors.

Four coaches from Deepings Swimming Club will tackle the Lyke Wake Walk from Osmotherley to Ravenscar, setting off on the gruelling 42-mile nonstop trek on Saturday.

Led by head coach Lynn Chapman, her colleagues Andy Wilde, Tracy Hipkin and Steven Booth aim to complete the challenge in 16 hours by walking through the night and hopefully raising plenty of cash for their chosen charity – The British Heart Foundation.

Lynn said “It’s a hard walk to do both physically and mentally and tiredness in the legs is a definite when covering so many miles. But with determination and some help from our travelling support crew, I’m sure we can cross the finish line.

“We know that the whole swimming club will be backing us all the way.”

The team say they have had lots of support from friends and family during their training and Peterborough Body Shop and VW Cookes, both of Fengate, Peterborough, have helped provide transport to get the team to North Yorkshire.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so online at the team’s charity page http://www.justgiving.com/DeepingsSC or by contacting the club direct at www.deepingssc.co.uk
