Time now for city to show it can pack a punch
IT COULD easily be construed as something of an insult, hearing Peterborough described as a city that “punches below it weight”.
But it might just be wake-up call the people charged with delivering the promised billion pound regeneration of the city centre need.
It might just be a realisation of the truth and the inspiration needed to show people that this is a city with a lot to offer – a city of opportunity – and one that is going places.
Certainly the vision outlined to the big hitters attending the growth summit suggests that is the case.
Based on similar projects across the country, developing Peterborough United’s ground into a multi-million pound “community stadium” would be great for the city and, indeed, Posh.
and the city is clearly well placed, geographically at least, to be able to soak up the 5,000 jobs set to move out of London.
But these things are not going to happen on their own. They are not going to drop into the city’s lap.
Feedback it appears was very positive – the people of Peterborough just need to see that transformed into something a little more “concrete”
