No to cameras
rE: Calls for CCTV at Eastfield Cemetery, ET, June 17.
I’m less than enthusiastic about a call for yet more cameras. The reason being that I remain unconvinced of their effectiveness, for one thing the images obtained tend to be of a less than useless quality, and the cameras can be rendered even more useless by the simple wearing of a hoody top.
While I do agree that cameras can deter the opportunist thief, you have to ask if the expense is warranted. I believe the answer is not to leave cherished items at the grave side and accept the fact that Peterborough will not allow for a decent quality of life in many respects. The best seems to be behind us now. Perhaps if the city council could find £11.2 million from somewhere, they could afford to pay a PC to swing by every now and then.
