Old school photos are jogging your memories

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Looking Back -

THIS week we’re having a bit of a re-cap in Looking Back as we’ve had a lot of feedback on our recent photographs.

First of all, thanks to Patricia Moulds from Stanground, we now have the names of this group of adults taken at Old Fletton Primary School (above), which we first published on Saturday, May 29.

Mrs Moulds worked at the school for more than 20 years as a teacher’s assistant, so was able to recognise many of the other staff members.

The gentleman to the left is Bob Turner, who later became the school’s head teacher.

Working from left along the back row from Mr Turner are Mrs Hall, Miss Ward, Miss Seaton, Mrs White, an unknown lady and then Mrs Dunkerley.

In the front row, the lady in the dark skirt suit is Miss Faulkner, the headmistress, and next to her is Mrs Johnson.

If you know the name of the final lady, please get in touch with Hannah Gray.

Our second lot of feedback is about Fulbridge Road School, and the photographs sent in by June Churchill, nee Dandridge.

We published some information last week but didn’t have enough space for it all, so this week, as promised, we have some more.

Felicty Benton, nee Bean, got in touch about this photograph of Mr Underwood’s class, 4A, as they prepared to leave the school in 1958.

Mrs Benton wrote: “I’ve just seen via the internet the photo of Fulbridge Road School in 1958.

“I am Felicity Bean on the left of the teacher, Mr Underwood. He was our teacher for two years and was very popular.

“We kept in touch with him even after we left but he went to live in Rickmansworth and became a head teacher.

“I became a teacher myself and realised how far ahead of his time he was when he taught us.

“He got married one year but could only have two of the class at his wedding. I remember I was very disappointed not to have been one of the chosen ones.

“My oldest friend, Alison Mould, is on the photo and we are regularly in touch.

“I would love to hear from anyone else in the class at felice.ben@ gmail.com. I now live in Suffolk having been in Peterborough most of my life.”

Another reader, Wendy Allett, Pratt, got in touch about the pictures of runners from Fulbridge Road School in 1956.

She said: “I was rather surprised to see my photo in last night’s ET. am Wendy Pratt, the unknown girl on the front row between Jennifer Runacre and Carol Ladd.

“I am sorry I don’t recognise any of the others, I think the second unknown girl on the front row might be Margot Parker but I am not sure.”

Finally, June Churchill has been so delighted with the response to photographs that she’d very much like to hear from her former a school friends, with a view to setting up reunion.

If you are one of those pictured would like to get in touch, call her 01733 560175.
