SHINING like a diamond, the 1951 classic has been lovingly restored using the latest technology. The result is seeing Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn making movie magic in lush colour with crisp sound. In his only Oscar-winning role, Bogey played Charlie, the boozing, smoking, cussing captain of a tramp steamer in Africa who rescues prim and proper Rose after her brother is killed by German soldiers. After much bickering the ill-matched pair set forth to sabotage a German ship in this superb film by director John Huston.

THE MANAGERESS: COMPLETE SERIES ONE (Acorn, two-disc set £19.99)

SET to score with many fans, here’s the 1989 TV series in which the beautiful game got a beautiful new manager in Cherie Lunghi. She plays Gabriella, a woman raised on football by an often-absent father who, when her mother dies, reaches out to her by cutting a deal for her to take over from a corrupt football team manager. Nudity in the dressing room is least of the worries for the first female football team boss as she faces resistance from the team and trainer and backstabbing in the board room.
