THE AFRICAN QUEEN: SPECIAL RESTORATION EDITION
(ITV Studios, cert U, £19.99)
SHINING like a diamond, the 1951 classic has been lovingly restored using the latest technology. The result is seeing Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn making movie magic in lush colour with crisp sound. In his only Oscar-winning role, Bogey played Charlie, the boozing, smoking, cussing captain of a tramp steamer in Africa who rescues prim and proper Rose after her brother is killed by German soldiers. After much bickering the ill-matched pair set forth to sabotage a German ship in this superb film by director John Huston.
