IT LOOKS like the next school year is going to be a successful one for Peterborough Regional College.
It has been a busy month for the college, in Park Crescent, as it held the latest of its series of open evenings on June 9, as well as launching its new part-time course guide.
Thanks to these, the college is looking forward to a bumper intake come September, as more than 3,500 applications for places on its fulltime courses have been submitted.
Open evening visitors got their first chance to have a look at the new £8.5 million University Centre Peterborough, at the college site,
The campus, part of the Anglia Ruskin University, has been hailed as a major step in bringing a full university to the city and is offering a range of undergraduate courses.
Spokesman Lynsey Buckingham said open events always generate interest in the college.
She said: “We had a very busy open evening, with around 700 visitors coming through the doors.
“The new University Centre was also open, giving visitors the opportunity to look around and get valuable advice and information on the higher education courses it has available.”
As well as the demonstrations from full-time students in the arts, travel and tourism, construction, hairdressing and new media departments, there was plenty on offer from the part-time courses as well.
The college is offering short leisure and vocational courses in subjects ranging from languages to basic dress making, Indian head massage and basic car maintenance.
More academic courses include qualifications in humanities and social science, as well as a BTEC National in forensic and medical science.
Ms Buckingham added: “Hundreds of places are available for courses that start in September, although people cannot enrol until July 12.
“That said, we have had a lot of interest in our part-time courses and it’s worth noting that we will also be taking people on in the New Year as well.”
