Panthers live on Sky next week

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - World Cup -

SKY TV will make their first visit to the East of England Showground this season on Monday, June 28.

The Readypower Panthers will take on top-four rivals Lakeside in front of the cameras in the second of a weekend of vital play-off action.

And the meeting will be officially Armed Forces Day with free admission to all service personnel and their families.

It will be a hectic two matches in four nights for the Panthers – with Belle Vue the visitors on Friday, June 25.

So far this season Peterborough’s only TV appearances have been on the road but they are likely to feature more often as the race to finish in the top four hots up.

Currently the Panthers are in fourth place but only two points ahead of fifth-in-the-table Belle Vue.

Next Friday’s clash with the Aces is the first of five successive home matches although there is a possibility that an away meeting – again in front of the TV cameras – will be slotted into an otherwise barren away programme in July.

TEAM-MATES Troy Batchelor and Rory Schlein are set to be World Championship rivals in the race for a place in next year’s Grand Prix series.

The pair, both of whom are likely to feature in Australia’s World Cup squad, have been drawn in the same race-off round in the 2011 Grand Prix qualifying series.

And they will meet in their opening ride in the meeting at Ostrow, Poland, on Saturday, July 3.

Troy, who is currently taking a mid-season break in Spain, has greeted the draw enthusiastically.

He said: “I was dreading being drawn in the round in Russia – it would have meant a 3,000 mile trip just to get there.”

Peterborough’s other contender Niels-Kristian Iversen has also avoided the marathon trek to Russia. He continues his bid to get through to the Grand Prix Challenge via the round at Lonigo, Italy, also on July 3.

His rivals will include Panthers’ assets Ales and Lukas Dryml.
