The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Neighbourhood News -

A WORLD Cup themed football tournament will be held in Central Park to coincide with the kick-off of the Peterborough Festival this weekend.

Peterborough City Council is organising the competition and wants young people to create five-a-side teams to take part.

Two competitions will run - one for under 14s and another for under 16s - and it is designed to bring youngsters from different cultures together through football.

Supported by organisations including Peterborough United Football Club, the tournament for under 16s will take place on Saturday, with the under 14s playing on Sunday.

Teams are required to be at the park at 9am on the day of the competition with five players for registration.

They will be asked pick a country to represent on the day.

Entry is £10 per person and the first match will kick off at 10am, on both days.

The city council is keen to get as many people involved in the event, and so wants people who are not playing football to go to the park and cheer on the teams.

To enter a team, youngsters need to call Jason Horne on 07920 160105 or email jason.horne@peterborough.gov.uk.

But teams need to hurry, as the deadline for entries ends at 5pm today.
