Funds boost from group’s an­niver­sary

A WOMEN’S group has cel­e­brated its 60th an­niver­sary, by rais­ing more than £1,000 for Peter­bor­ough good causes.

Soroptimist In­ter­na­tional Peter­bor­ough – part of a world­wide or­gan­i­sa­tion for pro­fes­sional women – held fundrais­ing events through­out the past 12 months.

The pres­i­dent’s char­ity, Peter­bor­ough Autis­tic So­ci­ety, re­ceived £900. The Ru­dolf Fund, which helps dis­ad­van­taged young­sters and takes them on hol­i­days, re­ceived £380, and £275 was do­nated to Soroptimist In­ter­na­tional’s scheme Project Sierra Hope and Homes for Chil­dren. The project helps fam­i­lies liv­ing in poverty in Sierra Leone.

The pres­i­dent’s char­ity for 2010/11 is Peter­bor­ough Young Car­ers.

Soroptimist In­ter­na­tional Peter­bor­ough cel­e­brated its big an­niver­sary on June 12, with a black and white themed din­ner at Peter­bor­ough Town Hall, which was at­tended by 68 mem­bers and their guests.

The Soroptimist In­ter­na­tional Peter­bor­ough group meets twice a month, on Mon­day evenings, at the Copeland Cen­tre, in Copeland, Bret­ton.
