Funds boost from group’s anniversary
A WOMEN’S group has celebrated its 60th anniversary, by raising more than £1,000 for Peterborough good causes.
Soroptimist International Peterborough – part of a worldwide organisation for professional women – held fundraising events throughout the past 12 months.
The president’s charity, Peterborough Autistic Society, received £900. The Rudolf Fund, which helps disadvantaged youngsters and takes them on holidays, received £380, and £275 was donated to Soroptimist International’s scheme Project Sierra Hope and Homes for Children. The project helps families living in poverty in Sierra Leone.
The president’s charity for 2010/11 is Peterborough Young Carers.
Soroptimist International Peterborough celebrated its big anniversary on June 12, with a black and white themed dinner at Peterborough Town Hall, which was attended by 68 members and their guests.
The Soroptimist International Peterborough group meets twice a month, on Monday evenings, at the Copeland Centre, in Copeland, Bretton.
New members are welcome to attend the meetings. To find out more, visit www.soroptimist-gbi.org.
