Leader fears cuts will be tough

THE leader of Peterborough City Council fears today’s emergency budget could result in severe cuts to the authority’s funding.

Chancellor George Osborne is expected to slash public sector cash.

The city council already has to cut its annual budget by £4 million, after the Government cut its Area Based Grant by £3 million to £12 million.

Council leader Councillor Marco Cereste said: “It is bad enough when you have a year to plan how to cut a budget, but to take £4 million out of an existing budget isn’t going to be an easy task. It is important we safeguard front line services.

“We will wait to see what happens. This country is in trouble and it is falling on to our shoulders to help pick it back up.”
