Rowen Squibb, Fluid Design

Q: Have you been watching the World Cup and how far do you think England will progress in the tournament? A: I think it’s all in the tactics, Capello is a football genius and he knows what he is doing, it’s all in the tactics. Go England! Q: Have you noticed that the World Cup has been a distraction in your business dealings? A: No, things feel like they are back on a positive footing, people were concerned about the spiralling debt and the “Best to be unemployed culture.” You have to feel like this is now all in hand and businesses in Peterborough are back to growth and hopefully we will see some refined direction for Peterborough PLC. Q: What would you like to see the Chancellor reveal in the Emergency Budget? A: I feel a hike to 20 per cent on VAT is a right part solution. I do not feel we should drive banks and successful individuals out of the UK. A continued assault on quangos and a level playing field for working families needs to be created. Every step should be taken to create new businesses and the Pizza Express or RollsRoyce of the future. Q: What one thing, however large or small, do you think could be done to boost business in Peterborough? A: We need to clarify direction for the city and begin the process of raising the profile and building on success stories in the city, Peterborough is historic and open for business. Social enterprise or not-for-profits need to drive this investment and create a simple process for driving investment. Government does not understand the private sector and the sooner we begin the process of moving forward in this way, the sooner the tax-paying hard-working families of Peterborough can reap the rewards.
