making telephone calls. An old client drops in for a coffee and to catch up. It’s the first time he’s been to my new offices so I show him around. He is suitably impressed and says he will recommend his family and friends to me. It’s always nice to see old clients and especially when they provide such positive feedback. I go to the bank and on my way back pick up some shopping for the evening meal. I spend the afternoon reviewing files. I end my working day going through my “to-do list” and marking off completed tasks. It’s been a long day so I’m looking forward to my weekly yoga class in the evening. Thursday It’s a busy day today. When I arrive at the office I read through my post and dictate some replies. I telephone some insurers and negotiate settlements for a few clients in respect of their personal injury claims and send e-mails confirming the agreements. I then draft a complex schedule of damages setting out details of a client’s losses following a serious accident. I leave the office at 3pm to collect my daughter from school and take her to a dance class. My sister will collect her at the end of the class. I return to the office to sign my post and then go to a business garden party, where I meet some legal colleagues and business contacts. I arrive home just in time for maths homework! Friday I have a meeting today to discuss budgets for the next financial year. I prepare for the meeting and then go through my post. Having received some settlement cheques I dictate letters to clients sending the cheques out. It is very satisfying when a case concludes and the client gets the settlement they deserve. After agreeing budgets with my business partner we discuss business development and agree some initiatives. New signage for the office has arrived - it looks really good. The rest of the day is spent considering a new construction matter - very interesting but technical. I prepare my report and e-mail the client by the 5pm deadline. I sign my post and decide to call it a day. I get home in good time to settle down with my family to watch the England game - a disappointing end to an otherwise great week.
