Sawtry Colts form a new Under 9 girls team

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Sport -

SAWTRY Colts maintain their momentum in the world of girls junior football after announcing the launch of an Under 9s team.

The Colts will play in the Cambridgeshire League next season and those at the club are clearly excited at the prospect of expanding the development of the girl’s game in Sawtry.

Club official Simon Dennett said: “We already have girls teams in other age groups and wanted to give the same chance to the younger age group of playing competitive football in a safe and fun environment. There is a big call for it and we are all excited about next season.”

And as a warm-up for the coming campaign the team took on an Arsenal girls team last week to see how they match up to the best around.

Dennett added: “All the girls really enjoyed it and it was good to see the standard of the Arsenal team.

“And as an upshot from that and thanks to the connections of Steve Purnell at the club, two of our coaches have been invited down to Arsenal to watch them train, which will be a great help for us and hopefully we can take some of what we see on board to help our teams.”

Anybody interested in joining the new Under 9 squad - players must be in Year 2 or 3 at school - can call Steve Purnell on 07964 496259 for further information.
