Clarke coasts home in the Clar­ion Open

LUKE Clarke of Mil­ton Keynes won Fen­land Clar­ion’s Open 10-mile Time Trial, his time of 21.55 some 45 sec­onds quicker than the host club’s Chria Rimes, who fin­ished sec­ond.

Bourne’s Matt Pas­sen­ger fin­ished third in 22.41 with Clar­ion sup­ply­ing the first woman and the win­ning team. Lyn­d­say Clarke was the lead­ing fe­male in 25.58 while Rimes was well sup­ported by Simon Pitch­ford (23.09) and Ian Wad­dilove (23.46) in the win­ning team.

Joe Clarke con­tin­ued his im­prove­ment by clock­ing 26.57 to prove that he might soon be pass­ing his dad Steve. who did 25.59. Other lo­cal rid­ers per­form­ing well were Nick Hitchens of Peter­bor­ough Cy­cling Club with 24.33, just ahead of Fen­land’s Ian Clarke in 24.53 with Gregg Siggs (Peter­bor­ough) close be­hind in 25.12.

Brian Charm­ley (Peter­bor­ough) recorded 29.26 while Ann Bar­rett showed a con­sid­er­able im­prove­ment of 1.33 from her last at­tempt at this course with 30.07. Ryall-based Bill Law de­fied his 71 years of age to com­plete the course in 27.47 with fel­low vet­eran Keith Kin­sey close be­hind in 29.11 while Bir­git Scott re­turned to rac­ing with 33.00.
