Clarke coasts home in the Clarion Open
LUKE Clarke of Milton Keynes won Fenland Clarion’s Open 10-mile Time Trial, his time of 21.55 some 45 seconds quicker than the host club’s Chria Rimes, who finished second.
Bourne’s Matt Passenger finished third in 22.41 with Clarion supplying the first woman and the winning team. Lyndsay Clarke was the leading female in 25.58 while Rimes was well supported by Simon Pitchford (23.09) and Ian Waddilove (23.46) in the winning team.
Joe Clarke continued his improvement by clocking 26.57 to prove that he might soon be passing his dad Steve. who did 25.59. Other local riders performing well were Nick Hitchens of Peterborough Cycling Club with 24.33, just ahead of Fenland’s Ian Clarke in 24.53 with Gregg Siggs (Peterborough) close behind in 25.12.
Brian Charmley (Peterborough) recorded 29.26 while Ann Barrett showed a considerable improvement of 1.33 from her last attempt at this course with 30.07. Ryall-based Bill Law defied his 71 years of age to complete the course in 27.47 with fellow veteran Keith Kinsey close behind in 29.11 while Birgit Scott returned to racing with 33.00.
