Flag raised in honour of war heroes

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Uk&world Update -

THE mayor, dignitaries and veterans gathered to pay their respects to all those who had served their country by raising a flag above the Town Hall.

The poignant ceremony followed a short service outside the Town Hall in Bridge Street, Peterborough.

Other local councils across the country also simultaneously raised flags to launch the run-up to Armed Forces Day, recognising the sacrifices former and current servicemen and women make.

Armed Forces Day has replaced the previously celebrated Veterans Day and takes place on Saturday, June 26.

The first Armed Forces Day took place last year.

Peterborough Veterans’ Association is hosting a marquee at Central Park on Saturday, coinciding with the first day of the Peterborough Festival. During the afternoon, people are invited to attend a 1940s sing-along.
