Driver still on the run
A CAR thief is still on the run after crashing through a level crossing barrier in front of a train in a police chase.
A red Mercedes Kompressor coupe was stolen from Grounds Avenue, March between 11.30pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.
A man was seen driving the car when it was picked up by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera in St John’s Road, Peterborough heading towards Bishop’s Road at 2.30pm.
The driver was pursued by police officers, along the A605 to the Kings Delph railway crossing, where he crashed through barriers warning of an approaching train.
Although a train collided with the barrier nobody was injured.
The Mercedes was later found abandoned in Woolpack Lane, Whittlesey, at 3.45pm. Anyone with information should contact police on 0345 456 4564.
