The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your Telegraph -

A COUPLE who were cornerstones of the Peterborough dancing community for decades returned to the city where they fell in love to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Len Briers (83) and wife Betty (80) – both Peterborough born and bred – jointly ran social tea-dances in Peterborough for more than 14 years in community centres across the city. They moved to Poole in 2004 to be near their daughters, but returned for a party with 75 friends and family at Eye Manor Farm Community Centre on June 12 to mark their diamond wedding and Betty’s 80th birthday, which was on June 10. The couple, who married on June 17 1950, also had a family party on their anniversary itself. Betty said: “Dancing has always been a huge part of our life so it made sense to do this for our party. “We still know lots of people up here. We had a great turn out – it was a really lovely day.”
