Or­ton’s char­ity boost

MEM­BERS of Or­ton Mead­ows Golf Club have been do­ing their bit to beat can­cer by rais­ing more than £1,000 to help fight the dis­ease.

De­spite hav­ing a rel­a­tively small mem­ber­ship of roughly 150 play­ers, so far this sea­son the big­hearted bunch have man­aged to raise the princely sum of £1,183.39 for Can­cer Re­search.

And grate­ful rep­re­sen­ta­tives of the char­ity paid a trip to the club last week to col­lect their cheque from men’s cap­tain, Iain Cav­ille, ladies skip­per Lynne Simp­son and Alan Hodge who is se­nior cap­tain at the club.

Simp­son said: “For a small club it was a won­der­ful amount for us to raise and we were very pleased to be able to help such a worth­while cause in this way.”
