But in all seriousness we should have beaten Slovenia by far more than one goal and we are still nowhere near the finished article.
We did play at a much better tempo and although it wasn’t the flowing football we are capable of producing, it was a hell of a big improvement.
Jermain Defoe’s first touch proved to be the most important one but Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard all should have scored as well.
The fans were magnificent again and this result will give everyone a lift. But I am really concerned about Rooney.
He is a world-class player at the World Cup but he’s playing like Donald Duck. We’ve got to get him right.
