Young stars of ath­let­ics visit school

RIS­ING ath­let­ics stars will be star guests at a March school’s sports fes­ti­val.

Neale-Wade Com­mu­nity Col­lege, in Wim­bling­ton Road, will wel­come Char­lotte Roach and Bene­dict Kelk to present awards and meet pupils at the sports event on June 30.

Year 6 pupils from feeder pri­mary schools will be at Neale-Wade for the event, which aims to get young peo­ple in­volved in sport and marks Na­tional School Sports Week 2010.

Char­lotte, a track and cross coun­try run­ner, joined the Bri­tish Triathlon Fed­er­a­tion’s TriGold pro­gramme in 2009. She fin­ished fourth in the 2007 Euro­pean Ju­nior Cross Coun­try Cham­pi­onships and is hop­ing to make it into the Olympic squad for London 2012.

She is cur­rently tak­ing a year out from read­ing Nat­u­ral Sci­ences at Trin­ity Col­lege in Cam­bridge to train and re­cover af­ter a sport­ing ac­ci­dent.

Ben Kelk is an ath­lete from Cam­bridgeshire and is be­ing sup­ported by Sport­sAid and Lloyds TSB on his jour­ney to make it into the squad for London 2012. He is an A level stu­dent at Long Road Sixth Form Col­lege in Cam­bridge and com­bines his stud­ies with train­ing and com­pe­ti­tion com­mit­ments.

He won Gold in the 110m Un­der 20 men’s hur­dles at the SEAA Cham­pi­onships on 12th June.
