A WOMAN foiled a conman after her persistent questions caused him to flee empty-handed.

Police say the attempted distraction burglary took place on June 14 at around 3.30pm in Drayton, Bretton, where the man told the victim that he was from the water board and requested that she turn off valves and run taps. But when asked for ID he left.

A spokesman for the police said: “The man was white, middle-aged wearing a black, beanie type hat covering his hair and dark coloured fleece jacket with a motif on the front.”

“Please be aware, especially if you have elderly neighbours and, if you saw anything on Monday afternoon in the area, please call 0345 4564564.”
