Desert test for young scientists
BUDDING scientists have been heating water using light bulbs and purifying water as part of a desert challenge.
Pupils from Alderman Jacobs Primary School, The Park Lane School and Coates Primary School were invited to Sir Harry Smith Community College in Whittlesey for a scientific desert challenge.
Using their knowledge, the pupils had to learn how to survive on a desert island, heating water using a light bulb and purifying it using sand and salt.
Assistant head teacher James Fuller said: “Every year we tie a science project in with a theme and this year we chose the desert. Staff dressed up as pirates and sixth formers as monkeys.
“We even provided the pupils with tropical refreshments to keep the theme going.”
The winners of the desert challenge were pupils from Alderman Jacobs School in Whittlesey.
