THE bat­tle for con­trol of the East Coast Main Line reached its fi­nal stages, as both sides tabled their fi­nal bids. Richard Bran­son’s Vir­gin Trains group was at­tempt­ing to take over the ser­vices on the line - which con­nected Peter­bor­ough with King’s Cross Sta­tion in London - from Great North East­ern Rail­ways, owned by Sea Con­tain­ers. The dead­line for bids was 12pm.
