IT WAS feared that heavy lor­ries thun­der­ing over an un­der­ground river may col­lapse tun­nels and flood a town. No-one knew how safe the tun­nels, known as cul­verts, in Ram­sey were, so res­i­dents were de­mand­ing Cam­bridgeshire County Coun­cil made ur­gent in­ves­ti­ga­tions. The cul­verts had been built in the 19th Cen­tury, and ran un­der two of the town’s busiest roads.
