The Land Girls (Channel 4, 7.55pm)

What’s It About? No relation to the namesake BBC series, this focuses on three young Land Army agricultural volunteers who are sent to work on a farm - where they all fall for the owner’s son, leading to romance, heartbreak and tragedy. Is It Any Good? A fine return to form for director David Leland, who rose to fame with the Emily Lloyd movie Wish You Were Here in 1987, but suffered a knockout blow when boxing drama The Big Man went belly up in 1990. Starring: Catherine McCormack, Anna Friel, Rachel Weisz, Steven Mackintosh, Tom Georgeson, Maureen O’Brien, Lucy Akhurst Star Rating: **** (1998)

Maid in Manhattan (Five, 8pm)

What’s It About? Jennifer Lopez stars in this fine romantic comedy. She plays a maid who is mistaken for a high society lady. A wealthy politician (Ralph Fiennes) promptly asks her out, but the social differences between them soon become apparent and the truth looks set to ruin their fledgling romance. Is It Any Good? When she’s not talking about being plain old Jenny from the block, JLo can actually act and she’s as cute as a button in this frightfully funny comedy. Ralph Fiennes is as equally impressive as the posh object of her affections. It might resemble cheesy mush at times, but this film has enough about it to keep viewers entertained form start to finish. Starring: Jennifer Lopez, Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Bob Hoskins Star Rating: *** (2002)

Tequila Sunrise (Five, 11pm)

What’s It About? It’s that old, old story. Mac McKussic is a charming drug dealer who wants to go straight. His oldest friend, Nick, is now a cop assigned to investigate and bring him to justice. Mac, meanwhile, is very attracted to Jo Ann, the owner of a stylish restaurant. So Nick gets close to her too, trying to find out more about Mac’s criminal plans and his connections with the Mexican dealer Carlos, who the police believe is coming to town to meet up with him. And guess what? Nick also falls for Jo Ann’s charms, putting his friendship with Mac in danger. That’s the rather complicated set-up of a slick, saucy and very entertaining action thriller. Is It Any Good? It’s as dated as shoulder pads and Smurfs, but Tequila Sunrise remains terrific fun, with a stellar cast having a ball in an often overlooked and occasionally very steamy addition to the best flicks of the Eighties list. Starring: Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell Star Rating: **** (1988)
