Hunts bowlers enjoy a double success
WHAT a weekend for Hunts bowlers, with a Middleton Cup success over arch rivals Norfolk and regional glory for the juniors in the Inter-county Under 25 Double Rink Championship.
The 18-4 victory over Norfolk at Parkway leaves Hunts at the top of the group, with two wins out two, and needing just 22 points from their last two matches (there are 44 available) to book their place in the quarter-finals.
They will be looking to make a healthy reduction of that target at Essex today before concluding their group campaign with a home match against Bedfordshire.
The following day the Hunts juniors took centre stage with wins over Essex (44-40) and Norfolk (49-18) at Bedford Borough to reach the semifinals of the Bowls England Men’s Under 25 Inter-county Double Rink Championship for the first time since 1996.
The rinks were skipped by the Morton brothers, Ean and Tristan, with Ean’s storming to a 34-4 in the regional final against Norfolk. Tristan’s rink won both their matches.
Ean’s rink was Lewis Baker, Alex Walton, and James Price, while Tristan lined up with Scott Wilson, Lee Welsford and James Harford.
WHITE Hart (Warboys) are still going strong in both the Bowls England national club competitions – the top club and double rink championships.
They face West Ward A in the fourth round of the top club competition, and then Stewart & Lloyds B at the same stage in the double rink event.
