Eleven England heroes can prove Beckenbauer wrong

BARRY Fry is backing 11 English heroes to roar to a wonderful World Cup victory and ram the taunts of German great Franz Beckenbauer back down his throat.

The Posh director of football Barry Fry is confidently predicting a 20 success over the old enemy when England take on Germany in the ‘Battle of Bloemfontein’ tomorrow.

Fry can see no other scenario than an England victory and a place in the quarter-finals in South Africa - and he insists there will be no shortage of motivation for our players.

Fry said: “Beckenbauer will regret the things he has been coming out with - that we are stupid to finish second in our group, that we are too tired, that we play kick and rush football.

“If I was Fabio Capello tomorrow I would be sticking every one of Beckenbauer’s criticisms on the wall in the dressing room and telling the players to go out and ram his words back down his throat.

“And I think there is every possibility of us doing that. We improved immensely on Wednesday against Slovenia and now we need to take another step forward.

“I see us building on the performance in that game and winning 2-0, but we will have to be more ruthless.

“We can’t afford to miss the amount of chances that we did against Slovenia and we can’t afford to have anyone putting in a bad performance.

“What we need is 11 heroes out there. The players must come together as a team and not play as individuals.”

LOOKING RELAXED: Jermain Defoe hopes to be a hero for England again tomorrow.
