This pic­ture was taken in the 1970s, and you can see the Oun­dle Road bridge in the dis­tance.

Our sec­ond pho­to­graph to­day takes us right back to a very dif­fer­ent Cathe­dral Square.

To­day, it has be­come a haven for young­sters to splash about in the new foun­tains, but in 1963 the mar­ket was clearly held there, and it was yet to be pedes­tri­anised.
