Celebration to mark courage of veterans

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - News -

FOR the second year running, Fenland District Council is hosting a special ceremony to pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women.

All former members of the armed services who wish to apply for a Veteran’s Badge, or those who have a badge and have not previously had it formally presented, are being invited to a Veterans’ Day celebration on July 2.

A thanksgiving service will be held at St Peter’s church in March, followed by lunch in the church hall.

The focal point of the service will be the presentation of the HM Armed Forces Veterans’ Badge to people of all generations who have served in the Army, Royal Navy or Royal Air Force.

Wally Newman, secretary of the Whittlesey branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “Events such as this are very important in showing how much the rest of the nation appreciates the courage and sacrifice of all those who serve in our armed forces.”

Ted Rasell, secretary of the March branch of the Royal Naval Association, said: “Last year’s event was a really marvellous occasion, but no doubt there were some people who weren’t able to attend. It would be tremendous if they could come along this time.”
