Respect for Nobby

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your - KATE HALL

WE would like to say a big thank-you to all those people who have been helping us with our forthcoming project – a play about Peterborough’s Nobby the tramp.

It has been great to hear people’s stories about Nobby, and the great respect they hold for him.

As we have got deeper into the project, we have found that there is an exciting story here about Peterborough, especially the city’s response to the homeless – both in the past and present.

And that’s what the play has got to be about, partly from Nobby’s perspective but also, significantly, looking at how homelessness in Peterborough has changed so dramatically in recent years.

We feel this important to say as it has been suggested that Nobby is going to become even more famous as a result of the production, but we know that this is not what he would want, and we respect his wishes.

Having talked to some of the organisations dealing with homelessness now, it would be very difficult for another “Nobby” to survive and be accepted, and that is where the story of “our Nobby” is heading.

We look forward to sharing with you the next Platform Peterborough production this Autumn.

AFFECTION: Nobby on the streets of Peterborough.
