and helped set up a 125-run win for Yaxley - their first in Rutland Division Two this season.
Other big scores were recorded by March Town’s Aussie Matt Wilcox who made 101 in a Division Two win over Oakham, Andy Hulme who cracked 112 as Stamford beat Newborough in the same section and Bourne legend Hedley Stroud who made 107 for the club’s second team in a win over Oakham seconds in Division Five before generously retiring to let others have a go.
There was a first defeat for Castor in Division Four as Peterborough Town seconds proved 36 runs too good. Former Castor captain Bob Milne made 63 for Town before wily slow bowler Richard Kendall (5-25) wrecked the title favourites’ innings.
Town seconds also enjoyed a good day 24 hours earlier when strengthening their position at the Northants Division Three with a four run win over Heyford. Alex Mitchell, Stuart Williams and Daniel Oldham all made half centuries for Town.
Newborough maintained their position at the top of Hunts Division One with a six-wicket win over Warboys. The villagers were in trouble at 37-4 chasing 215-8, but a brilliant unbroken fifth wicket stand of 178 between Gareth Clingo (80no) and Andrew Fitzgibbon (77no) saw them home.
Orton Park also pulled an unlikely win out of the bag despite scoring 248-8 against Waresley. Ian Hancock cracked 97 of those, but Waresley were 140-0 and 2003 before they collapsed to 245 all-out thanks mainly to 6-48 from John Clifton.
Andy Larkin completed a ton by hitting the last ball for four in an eight-wicket win over Castor seconds in Division Two, while Marc Cutworth smacked 111 in Ramsey’s win over Blunham.
Neil Fox (103no) was the final local centurian in Oundle seconds’ Northants Division Eight draw with Stewart & Lloyds 2nds.
Local rivals March and Wisbech produced two exciting finishes in Cambs League action. The third team match was tied, while the fourth team clash was won by March by one wicket.
