Robben sets up fine Dutch win

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - World Cup -

HOLLAND ............................... 2 SLOVAKIA .............................. 1 A FINE strike from former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben and a late effort from Wesley Sneijder fired Holland into the quarter-finals as they claimed a routine win over Slovakia in Durban.

Bayern Munich star Robben was making his first start of the competition, coming in for Rafael van der Vaart, and put the Dutch ahead in the 18th minute.

The Dutch were hardly troubled from then on and Sneijder, whose pass set up the opener, doubled the advantage six minutes from time after Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt had given him the easiest of chances.

Robert Vittek grabbed an injurytime consolation from the spot with his fourth goal of the competition after Martin Jakubko had been fouled by Maarten Stekelenburg but it was too little too late.
