Hobson’s Choice: readers respond
Today we publish another collection of readers’ photographs, submitted in response to our daily Hobson’s Choice page.
WE’RE going up in the air – or almost – with our Hobson’s Choice readers’ special this week.
Former Peterborough resident Laurence Garey has sent in these wonderful images of his time with the Air Training Corps (ATC).
The large photograph on the far right shows Mr Garey after flying a Tiger Moth during his 115 Squadron flying scholarship at Marshalls, Cambridge. It was taken in August 1958.
The second photograph, nearest right, taken in some sort of classroom, shows Flight Lieutenant P E Nobbs holding a final briefing for the cadets before a trip to RAF Shawbury.
Mr Garey is in the top left. This photograph was taken in August 1956.
Our third photograph today is members of 115 Squadron pictured with mayor Roy Westcombe.
The final photograph shows Mr Garey, along with his friend Kenneth Barker, having just received their flying scholarship medals. The younger boys are clearly admiring the medals.
After leaving the ATC, Mr Garey went on to do more flying, both civil and with the Nottingham and Oxford University Air Squadrons.
