A CHUNK of lead-piping which fell off a building in Cathedral Square forced a building society to close its doors for two hours.

The drama began at 11am yesterday, when worried staff at Cheltenham and Gloucester, in Long Causeway, called police after a customer told them a lump of piping had fallen from the roof.

Police cordoned off the scene with tape and workmen were called to inspect the roof with a cherry picker before declaring it safe.
